Stolpersteine in the classroom
Over the past few years, we have found that Stolpersteine are an excellent way to vividly address the topic of National Socialism in the classroom, to experience it in a real-life context, and to generally spark students’ interest in the topic. Stolpersteine in the school’s vicinity or Stolpersteine for former students provide a good opportunity to explore the lives and fates of individuals who were persecuted.
Participating in a laying ceremony (or even contributing to one) is an impressive experience, especially when relatives of the victims are present. Our laying ceremonies offer the opportunity to bring historical knowledge out of the books and into one’s own neighborhood, thereby giving students a different way to approach the topic.
